Menezes,Adriana Morato de; Tanure,Candice Bergmann Garcia e Silva; Peripolli,Vanessa; Esteves,Geisa Isilda Ferreira; Kindlein,Liris; Louvandini,Helder; Souza,Jurandir Rodrigues de; McManus,Concepta.
ABSTRACT: The use of new feed resources, particularly local agroindustrial byproducts, such as banana, may be an option for replacing those traditionally used for sheep feed to reduce production costs. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the dietary effects of replacing corn bran with banana leftovers on performance, carcass, non-carcass components, meat traits, and fatty acid profile of Santa Inês lambs. Twenty-four Santa Inês female lambs with an average weight of 23.73 kg were fed diets containing 60 % coast cross hay and 40 % concentrate (30 % corn bran and 10 % soybean meal). Treatments consisted of corn bran replaced by banana leftovers at rates of 0, 25, 50, and 75 % on a dry matter basis. The experiment lasted 120 days. Animals were...

Crambe (Crambe abyssinica) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus) protein concentrates: production methods and nutritional properties for use in fish feed Anais da ABC (AABC)
LOVATTO,NAGLEZI M.; GOULART,FERNANDA R.; LOUREIRO,BRUNO B.; SPERONI,CAROLINE S.; BENDER,ANA B.B.; GIACOMINI,SANDRO J.; RADÜNZ NETO,JOÃO; SILVA,LEILA P. DA.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to develop and improve protein concentration techniques for two industrial by-products with the potential for use in fish feed. In particular, we chemically characterized crambe meal and sunflower meal and their protein concentrates. Three different protein concentration methods were tested: isoelectric pH (pHi), acid pH and alkaline pH. For crambe and sunflower meals extraction using the pHi method was most efficient in terms of protein yield and crude protein content in the concentrates; this method also increased lysine and methionine content in the concentrates. The water holding capacity of the sunflower protein concentrate was greater than that of the crambe protein concentrate. The crambe protein concentrate...

Drying kinetics of fermented grape pomace: Determination of moisture effective diffusivity AGRIAMBI
Deamici,Kricelle M.; Oliveira,Lucas C. de; Rosa,Gabriela S. da; Oliveira,Elizangela G. de.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to obtain the equilibrium moisture content of grape (variety ‘Tannat’) pomace through desorption isotherms, to evaluate the drying kinetics, determine the coefficient of effective diffusivity and physico-chemically characterize the grape pomace and the product obtained after drying. The desorption isotherms were determined at 50, 60 and 70 ºC and the experimental data were fitted using the GAB model (Gugghenheim, Anderson and de Boer). Drying was evaluated using a 22 factorial experimental design with three center points and effective diffusivity was obtained through the diffusion model of Fick’s second law. The grape pomace was characterized regarding the contents of moisture, protein, carbohydrates, lipids, ash and...

Expanding the Role of Systems Modeling: Considering Byproduct Generation from Biofuel Production Ecology and Society
Rosentrater, Kurt A; U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service; krosentr@ngirl.ars.usda.gov.
The bioethanol industry has been experiencing rapid growth over the past several years, and is expected to continue to increase production for the foreseeable future. A vital component to the success of this industry is the sales and marketing of processing residues, which are primarily sold as dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS). Systems modeling, a technique that has been used to predict future demand for bioethanol, can also be used to determine potential byproduct generation rates. This paper discusses the development of one such model, and presents predicted generation of DDGS as well as carbon dioxide emissions from this industry through 2100. These simulation results underscore the growing need to actively pursue research focused on...

Soja na alimentação de bovinos. Infoteca-e

The intake of the dry matter (DM), the crude protein (CP) and the metabolizable energy intake (ME) in megacalories per day (Mcal/day) were not affected by the diets. In contrast, the intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), in g/kg BW, increased linearly. An increasing linear effect was also observed for the ether extract (EE) intake, whereas a decreasing linear performance was observed for the non-fibrous carbohydrate (NFC) intake. The digestibility of DM, organic matter and NFC decreased linearly with the sunflower cake inclusion, whereas the digestibility of CP, NDF, and EE were not influenced by the diets. No effect was observed for the concentration of serum glucose or urea nitrogen serum. No effect was observed on the urea nitrogen serum in the hours...

Understanding Spatial Welfare Impacts of a Grain Ethanol Plant AgEcon
Van Wart, Justin; Perrin, Richard K..
A changing world of increasing complexity, fluctuating prices, high energy costs and limited data necessitate creative blending of economic theory and available empirical statistics to understand the welfare impacts in a specific market. In this paper, a programming approach is used in tandem with spatial economic theory to understand the spatial welfare impacts of an ethanol plant established in an area with a beef feeding industry. The study concludes that corn transportation costs are less significant in plant pricing strategy than originally identified by other studies. Local ethanol plant competition is found to explain the lower-than-feed value pricing of ethanol byproducts at the plant. In the study, average welfare effects are calculated for...
